BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON DEATH OF POLICE OFFICER PETER FIGOSKI IN EAST NEW YORK

“I know I speak for all Brooklynites and New Yorkers when I say we are saddened and sickened by the shooting death of NYPD Police Officer Peter Figoski, a 22-year veteran of the force, in East New York this morning. Officer Figoski lived on Long Island, but each and every day he put his life on the line to protect Brooklynites in the 75th Precinct. This horrific attack on brave officers who risk their lives every day to keep the peace is a grim reminder once again why we must break America’s love affair with guns and get them off our streets. The heartless thugs responsible for Officer Figoski’s death obviously have no regard for human life and it’s my hope they will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Figoski’s family—including parents Frank and Maryanne, former wife Paulette and daughters Christine, Caitlyn, Carolyn and Corrine—and his fellow men and women in blue. May they take solace in the fact that all New Yorkers are grateful for his valiant service.”
