BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON NOMINATION OF BROOKLYNITE DAVID YASSKY AS CHAIRMAN/COMMISSIONER OF TAXI AND LIMOUSINE COMMISSION

“Mayor Bloomberg has made an excellent choice in nominating Brooklyn’s own David Yassky as chairman/commissioner of the Taxi and Limousine Commission. For seven years, David was a distinguished member of City Council, where he spearheaded regulations to make New York City’s taxis more green, advocated to protect taxi drivers from unscrupulous medallion owners and chaired the Small Business Committee. That small business and industry ‘know-how’—not to mention that Brooklyn attitude—make him the ideal candidate to head the TLC. I am confident, with City Council’s approval, he will give this position the attention, commitment, expertise and, yes, ‘TLC’ that it deserves—and riders, owners and drivers will all ‘hail’ his leadership.”
