On Friday, January 8, 2010, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was joined by the Korean Dry Cleaners Association (KDCA) of New York to donate unclaimed clothing to New York City’s Department of Homeless Services (DHS). DHS Commissioner Robert V. Hess was on hand to accept overcoats, jackets, sweaters, pants and other clothing collected by KDCA members. The donated clothing will be distributed throughout Brooklyn and New York City to help New Yorkers experiencing homelessness stay warm this winter, and to wear during employment searches.
“With the cold winter weather expected to be even more severe this season, we are especially thankful that the Korean Dry Cleaners Association of New York and the Department of Homeless Services are partnering with us again to give our most vulnerable residents a warm coat, a cozy sweater or even a new suit,” said BP Markowitz. “I thank the Association and Commissioner Hess for continuing a tradition that not only takes the chill from the bones but also immeasurably warms the heart!”
“Thanks to the Korean Dry Cleaners Association, and the leadership of Marty Markowitz, New Yorkers experiencing homelessness will start the new year dressed for success, and adequately clothed to endure the cold winter months,” said DHS Commissioner Robert V. Hess. “This annual event truly speaks to the benefit of government partnerships and the widespread impact business owners can yield in their communities. We are so honored to once again receive these beautiful donations, as they brighten the lives of the individuals who receive them.” |
