Press release from MetroTech BID:

METROTECH BID ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEW DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN INFORMATION CENTER

Borough President Marty Markowitz and other elected officials joined members of the MetroTech BID today to announce the opening of the BID’s new Downtown Brooklyn Information Center located at 370 Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue.

This all weather kiosk has been outfitted to provide the public with maps, information on Downtown Brooklyn destinations, stores, shopping and special events. The booth will be staffed by MetroTech BID’s street ambassadors, a group of knowledgeable and friendly college students who have been trained to provide local information services.

“MetroTech BID’s new Downtown Brooklyn Information Center will be a great partner to the Brooklyn Tourism Visitors Center at Borough Hall, which has greeted more than 50,000 visitors since its opening in 2004,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “When more visitors come to experience our vibrant Downtown, cultural institutions, treasures like our waterfront, as well as the boundless character and characters of our many hip and diverse neighborhoods, that means dollars coming into Brooklyn. The Information Center will go a long way toward making sure people keep visiting, working, shopping, staying in our hotels, dining at our restaurants and falling in love with Downtown Brooklyn (and if they want to take a day trip into Manhattan, that’s okay!)”

Victoria Aviles, of Bridge Cleaners, President of the MetroTech BID said, “This new BID service will supplement the efforts of Borough President Marty Markowitz’s Tourism Center at Borough Hall providing another location where the walking public will receive valuable information about Downtown Brooklyn.”

Michael Weiss, BID Executive Director said, “In the past few years, we have noted a significant increase in the number of people coming to Downtown Brooklyn for government business, tourism and shopping. Many of these newcomers seek travel directions to numerous institutions, offices and stores. The Information Center will assist in meeting these needs. I wish to thank MTA NYC Transit for its willingness to participate in this joint effort.”

The Center will initially be open on weekdays during business hours. Depending on acceptance and demand the hours may be expanded. For further information visit the BID website at www.metrotechbid.org.
