On Tuesday, February 16, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg, elected officials, the New York City Economic Development Corporation and the New York City Department of City Planning at the New York Aquarium to unveil plans for a new amusement park in Coney Island scheduled to open by Memorial Day. Central Amusement International will lease three City-owned parcels for ten years and invest nearly $30 million to build and operate the amusement park, with rides from Italy-based ride designer and manufacturer, Zamperla.
“I am delighted to welcome Central Amusements to America’s playground. This summer, Luna Park will shine during the day and sparkle under the stars at night,” said BP Markowitz. “As they say in Italy, where the roots of Central Amusements were formed, ‘Benvenuti alla Republica di Brooklyn!’”
