BP MARKOWITZ JOINS CONSUL GENERAL, COMMUNITY LEADERS IN URGING BROOKLYNITES, NEW YORKERS TO AID FLOOD-RAVAGED PAKISTAN

On Wednesday, August 25, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined the Consul General of Pakistan in New York, members of the Pakistani and Arab American communities and elected officials to urge Brooklynites and all New Yorkers to generously support flooding relief efforts in Pakistan.

“For many Americans, this crisis may seem far away and far removed from their daily lives, but in Brooklyn, home to the largest Pakistani community in the country, it affects us deeply,” said BP Markowitz. “As we all know, it’s traditional to give charity during Ramadan, so there is not better time to dig deep and give what you can.”

For more information on donating to the Pakistan flooding relief, visit www.brooklyn-usa.org.

Among the attendees at the Borough Hall press conference were the Honorable A.S. Babar Hashmi, Consul General of Pakistan in New York; NYC Council Member Mathieu Eugene; NYC Council Member David Greenfield; Mohammad Razvi, Council of Peoples Organizations (COPO); Ainul Haque, Director of Muslim Day Parade; Imrana Khera; community organizer whose family has been affected by flooding; Amina Ahmed, community organizer; Kasif Akhter, Pakistani leader; and Zeyba Rahman, Pakistani Peace Builders.
