On Tuesday, August 10, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz welcomed the Islamic community to Brooklyn Borough Hall to mark the fasting month of Ramadan.

“Brooklyn is home to one of the most vibrant, progressive and growing populations of Muslims in America,” said BP Markowitz. “All the forces of intolerance who find something wrong with putting an Islamic cultural center in Lower Manhattan—who don’t understand the ideals on which this nation was founded, who don’t get that our diversity is exactly what makes other nations envy America—well, they could stand to spend a few days in Brooklyn, USA, where we prove every day that it is not only possible to live side-by-side with others from diverse backgrounds—it’s desirable.”
