On Wednesday, April 14, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined the Hellenic community of Brooklyn for a Greek heritage reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
“Brooklyn is home to New York’s second largest Greek population, and soon to be first since so many younger people who grew up in Astoria—or as I like to call it, “Brooklyn Northeast”—are moving to hip Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Greenpoint,” said BP Markowitz. “In neighborhoods like Bay Ridge, Park Slope, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst, Greek communities are setting standards for every ethnic group to emulate.”
This year’s honorees:
- Steven Gounardes, D.D.S.
- Andreas Koutras, M.D.
- John Psaras
- Basilios Theodosakis
- Katerina Vlitas
- Kathryn Yatrakis, Ph.D.
Special recognition was given to Charles Capetanakis, Esq. |
