On Wednesday, September 23, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, the Turkish Cultural Center New York and members of the Turkish American community held a press conference at Borough Hall to preview the nation’s largest Turkish festival, “Turkish Days in New York,” which kicks off for the first time in Prospect Park on Sunday, September 27, and continues at various locations in the city through Sunday, October 4.

The Turkic & Balkan Park Festival will be held Sunday at Nethermead in Prospect Park from 10am to 6 pm. The eight-day festival, organized by the Turkish Cultural Center New York and supported by the Turkish-American Business Improvement and Development Council, was designed to showcase the Anatolian Civilizations, Turkic and Balkan cultures and traditions, and modern Turkey to all New Yorkers. Other events will be held in midtown Manhattan, Times Square, the New York Film Academy and Grand Central Terminal.

“Brooklyn may be the proud ‘Turkish Capital of the USA,’ but everyone is a little Turkish and has been greatly enriched by the contributions of Turkish Americans to all aspects of our society—including business, art, music, education and food,” said BP Markowitz. “The Turkish people are celebrated around the world as ‘hosts extraordinaire,’ so we were thrilled to return the favor and kick off the Turkish Days in New York festival in our beautiful Prospect Park.”
