BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
“Brooklyn says: Bravo, Barack! This historic day signals Hope and Change all across America—and especially in urban centers like Brooklyn and New York City. We finally have a president who will end the war and restore America’s good name in the global community, who values universal healthcare and a better education for our children, and who understands that our great cities can and should be empowered to lead the way in the economic recovery of this nation. Brooklyn is proud home to the largest African-American population of any county that is not its own city, and I know there was a smile on so many faces and tears of joy in all of our eyes as this moment that so many never imagined seeing in their lifetime came to pass. President Obama acknowledged that we are in a national crisis, and appropriately called for us all to rise to the challenge. As Brooklynites, New Yorkers, and Americans, we must answer his call: ‘Yes, we can.’”
