On Tuesday, August 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined the Council of Peoples Organization (COPO) and other Brooklyn community organizations to announce details of this year’s observance of Ramadan and the 6th annual Iftar dinner to be held after sundown at Brooklyn Borough Hall on Tuesday, August 25, 2009.

Ramadan is the annual month-long Muslim holiday of forgiveness and purification. During Ramadan, Muslims fast each day from sunrise to sundown, pray and make donations to charity. Brooklyn’s diverse and vibrant Muslim community includes dozens of mosques and schools and social services, as well as many thousands of Muslim Americans.
