BP MARKOWITZ “SNARES” DRUMMING GIG WITH BROOKLYN PHILHARMONIC TO CELEBRATE SCHOOL RESIDENCY INITIATIVE

On Thursday, June 3, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz put the “perk” in “percussion” when he performed student compositions on the drums with the Brooklyn Philharmonic School Residency Quartet at P.S. 250 in Williamsburg. The event recognized the students’ work, Brooklyn Philharmonic Education Programs and School Residency Initiative lead sponsor, National Grid Foundation.

As participants in the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s School Residency Initiative, six classes of 3rd grade students from P.S. 250 wrote musical compositions under the guidance of Brooklyn Philharmonic Teaching Artist, Angelica Negron. Over a period of 12 weeks, Ms. Negron and students composed six short pieces inspired by themes and stories from other academic subjects.

Nine Brooklyn schools and more than 700 students created music in the School Residency Initiative this season.
