On Sunday, October 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Federation of Italian American Organizations (FIAO) and chairman G. Jack Spatola, and elected officials at groundbreaking ceremonies for “Il Centro,” the first Italian American cultural community center in New York City. The center, which received support from BP Markowitz, will serve the entire community and provide social programs, recreation, education, cultural initiatives, a senior citizens center, an indoor swimming pool and gymnasium, and a performing arts auditorium.
