BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON DEATH OF SISTER MARY PAUL JANCHILL

“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Sister Mary Paul Janchill. Her selfless work went well beyond the good she did as co-founder of the Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, which has served those in need for three decades. Sister Mary Paul inspired a national conversation about the critical role that community plays in empowering individuals and strengthening families, particularly those in underserved areas. If the definition of ‘saint’ includes the capacity to see the God-given potential in every single human being, then surely Sister Mary Paul should be included among them. We grieve with the Sisters of Good Shepherd, Sister Mary Paul’s loved ones, and all those she touched and hope they will be comforted by the prayers and thoughts of millions of Brooklynites and New Yorkers.”
