BP MARKOWITZ, MAYOR OF AMERSFOORT, NETHERLANDS TO “SKYPE” AS PART OF CELEBRATION OF CITY’S 750TH BIRTHDAY

2:00 P.M.
FRIDAY, JUNE 5
BROOKLYN BOROUGH HALL
209 JORALEMON STREET
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN
BETWEEN COURT AND ADAMS STREETS

On Friday, June 5, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Albertine van Vliet-Kuiper, the mayor of Amersfoort in the Netherlands, will have a conversation via Skype as part of the “Anytime Project” celebrating Amersfoort’s 750th birthday. 2009 also marks the 400th anniversary of the Dutch arrival in New York. Also participating will be Hugo Gajus Scheltema, Consul General of the Netherlands in New York.

The Anytime Project is a digital “exchange program’ between the city of Amersfoort and Brooklynites, including the Amersfort School and the Brooklyn College Community Partnership. The original name for the Flatlands section of Brooklyn was Nieuw Amersfoort and there is an Amersfort Park in Mill Basin.

As part of the project, photography by artists Yusaf Sayman and Chantal Spieard is on display in the Community Room at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
