On Monday, June 29, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was camp counselor to dozens of young campers who “camped out” at Borough Hall to enjoy “bug juice” and other camp goodies at the official kick off of another great summer of Camp Brooklyn. Before they head off to ten summer camps in the tri-state area, the lucky campers were given camp survival packs—complete with flashlights, books, supplies for letters home and other essentials—at this special event. In addition, on Saturday, June 27, BP Markowitz joined the Brooklyn Board of Realtors for a series of car wash fundraisers benefiting Camp Brooklyn.
This year, more than 400 children will have the opportunity to experience two weeks of outdoor fun and hands-on learning, thanks to the non-profit organization SCOPE and the generosity of corporate sponsors and caring Brooklynites. Capital One was on hand to present Camp Brooklyn with a check for $30,000; other major contributors include Boar’s Head Provisions, Con Edison and the Jennie L. Grant Foundation.
BP Markowitz has always stated that his camp experience changed his life, and he has committed himself to changing the lives of as many Brooklyn youngsters as he can. Besides, he points out, with children off from school the entire summer—sometimes with little or nothing productive to do—“summer camp is great for kids, and even better for their parents!” said BP Markowitz.
Saturday’s car washes were organized by Frank Carone, board member, Hanover Community Bank and chairman of public relations, Brooklyn Board of Realtors; Sal Calabrese, president, Brooklyn Board of Realtors and owner, RE/MAX Metro; John Reinhardt, CEO, Fillmore Real Estate; Sal Licata, business development officer, Hanover Community Bank; Rick Martino, business development officer, Hanover Community Bank; Maryann Arbia, Fillmore Realty; and Cathy Favara, Coldwell Banker, Mid Plaza. Fundraisers were held at the following locations:
RE/MAX Metro, 7024 18th Avenue, between 70th and 71st Streets
Fillmore Real Estate in conjunction with Coldwell Bankers, 2990 Avenue U at Batchelder Street
Compass Realty Central, 6801 20th Avenue at 68th Street
RE/MAX Metro, 9504 3rd Avenue at 95th Street
