BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON MAYORAL CONTROL LEGISLATIVE AGREEMENT

“With the agreement announced by the Senate Democratic leadership and Mayor Bloomberg, the best interests of the children of New York City are being put first. Mayoral control is the right thing to do for our more than 1 million school children, and I congratulate the Senate leadership for succeeding in empowering parents in the system, which I have always said was necessary to enhance the delivery of quality education and to ensure more accountability and transparency. I thank the Governor, the legislative leadership and lawmakers for working together to both ensure a smooth transition into the new school year, and to continue moving New York City public schools to the head of the class.”
