BP MARKOWITZ MOURNS THE DEATH OF BROOKLYN DODGER PITCHER ELWIN CHARLES “PREACHER” ROE
“Like all Brooklynites who followed the ups and downs of ‘Dem Bums,’ I mourn the passing and celebrate the storied career of the All-Star pitcher and ultimate country boy in the city, Preacher Roe. Back then, here in Brooklyn, let me tell you, there was no greater adversary than the dreaded Yankees (who we always considered a ‘Manhattan’ team, even if they played in the Bronx), and Preacher Roe really took it to ’em—even though he retired before we finally won the World Series in 1955. All spitballs aside, Preacher earned his legend.”
