On March 28, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz made it official: the baby kangaroo at the Prospect Park Zoo is named Riley.

Standing outside Riley’s habitat at the Zoo, BP Markowitz announced the four finalists—Nari, Kylie, Kinta and Riley—before declaring the winning name. The Wildlife Conservation Society and the Heart of Brooklyn conducted an online poll and received hundreds of suggestions. The name Riley was submitted by Allison Make.

Riley is the third kangaroo to be born in Brooklyn, and the Prospect Park Zoo is the only zoo in the Northeast with western gray kangaroos.
