GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING SINGER JOHN LEGEND TO DONATE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CONCERT SERIES PROFITS TO SHOW ME CAMPAIGN, CAMP BROOKLYN

Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend delivered more than just great music at the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series hosted by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at Wingate Field on July 21—he came through for children and those in poverty in Brooklyn and around the world. After his expenses for the performance are covered, Legend has committed half of his profits to the Show Me Campaign and the remaining half to Camp Brooklyn.

“I have seen it all during my thirty years of producing and hosting the Seaside Summer Concert Series and the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series, but this was a first—and truly a wonderful surprise,” says BP Markowitz. “At 29 years old, Mr. Legend is setting a great example for accomplished artists at least twice his age—giving selflessly to those in need across the globe and helping to ensure that Brooklyn children will have the opportunity to attend summer camp away from the city.”

The mission of the Show Me Campaign is to end economic and spiritual poverty around the world through sustainable development at the individual, family and small community levels.

Borough President Markowitz’s Camp Brooklyn initiative, along with the nonprofit organization SCOPE, sends Brooklyn kids to fully accredited camps in the tri-state area for two weeks of outdoor fun and hands-on learning every summer. This year, thanks to generous sponsors and caring Brooklynites, 350 children will get to enjoy a summer away from home.
