BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON WAITING ROOM DEATH OF KINGS COUNTY HOSPITAL PATIENT

“The shocking evidence on this tape speaks for itself. This should never have happened. Part of what we all expect from hospitals in this borough and this nation is that we will be treated with attentive care once we are safely inside their doors. I am, of course, concerned that this remain true of all our hospitals in Brooklyn, and am absolutely outraged by the level of neglect displayed in this video. I realize the employees involved have been terminated, but that does little to mitigate the fact that this is a gruesome, horrific incident. Someone has died as a result—and these kinds of quick administrative changes cannot bring this poor woman back to life. I am calling on the hospital and the HHC to work together with oversight groups to make systemic changes that will ensure a culture of compassion. This can never, ever be allowed to happen again.”
