On Thursday, October 11, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, the Consul General of France in New York City Francois Delattre, local schoolchildren and other dignitaries in celebrating the restoration of the Lafayette Monument in Prospect Park.

To mark the 250th anniversary of The Marquis de Lafayette’s birth, a group of French and American citizens, with the assistance of the Consulate General of France in New York, led a fundraising effort to restore the monument that is dedicated to the general who fought on behalf of American rebels during the American Revolution.

The Lafayette Monument was initially conserved in 1988.
