On Tuesday, October 9, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation, Dunn Development Corporation, federal and state lawmakers, and other dignitaries for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Myrtle Avenue Apartments in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The project at 854 Myrtle Avenue provides 33 units of permanent rental housing that is affordable for lower income families. Most of the units are leased to working families, and eleven are set aside as homes for formerly homeless families. The entire building has earned the ENERGY STAR label, making it not only affordable but energy efficient.

“With ambitious projects like the Myrtle Avenue Apartments, socially-conscious organizations like Dunn Development, Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation and other community and civic groups show that public-private partnerships can drive a Brooklyn Renaissance that truly works for everyone,” said Borough President Markowitz. “This complex not only provides affordable housing to lower-income and formerly homeless families, it exceeds energy-efficiency standards. Affordable and ‘green’—it’s what we call a ‘match made in Brooklyn!’”
