On November 7, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Mayor Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn at a news conference in front of Building 92 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, to announce support for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) establishing a historical center at the site.

Building 92 was the United States Marine Corps Commandant’s residence, designed in 1857 by Philadelphia architect Thomas U. Walter, who was the fourth architect of the Capitol. The Brooklyn Historical Society (BHS) will serve as an advisor and partner in the establishment of an exhibit for the historical center and associated educational programs. Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment (BCUE) will be the anchor tenant.
