BP MARKOWITZ’S STATEMENT ON SHOOTINGS IN BROOKLYN MONDAY NIGHT

“Last night, nine people were shot in Brooklyn, one fatally. Brooklyn is once again outraged at these senseless shootings. It is unacceptable that, despite declining crime rates, Brooklynites continue to fall prey to heinous acts of violence. Certainly, we must not rest until the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice, and we must redouble our efforts to ensure that Brooklyn and New York City’s streets are free of guns used so carelessly to kill.

Again, I ask this President and members of Congress, 'How much more gun violence must there be before sanity becomes reality and we take major control measures, up to and including nationalizing gun sales?'

Last night’s victims and their families’ lives will be forever changed by these horrific events. And I speak for all of Brooklyn when I say that they and all victims of gun violence in Brooklyn are in our thoughts and prayers.”
