BP MARKOWITZ PROMOTES BROOKLYN DISABILITY AWARENESS DAY

11:00 A.M.
TUESDAY, JULY 17
 BOROUGH HALL
209 JORALEMON STREET
BETWEEN COURT AND ADAMS
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Tuesday, July 17, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join elected officials, community leaders, and Brooklynites with disabilities to promote awareness of the issues and common challenges faced by the members of Brooklyn’s diverse disabled communities.

Seventeen years have passed since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law in 1990, but there is still much to be done to ensure that Americans and immigrants with disabilities are given the opportunities they deserve. The Brooklyn Disability Awareness Day is a celebration of common bonds that unite disabled Brooklynites of all ethnic backgrounds and language groups and the enormous power that rests in every indvidual to make meaningful contributions to society.

The event, which is being organized by the American Brotherhood of the Russian Disabled (ABRUD), Local Russian Émigré Organizations (LOREO), Civic and Voter Education Initiative (CVEI), and the American Forum of World Congress of Russian Jewry (AFWCRJ), will include a speaking program, an awards ceremony, light refreshments, and musical entertainment.
