BP MARKOWITZ VISITS BROOKLYN'S "BABY NEW YEAR"

On Tuesday, January 2, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz visited New York City’s firstborn baby of 2007. At the stroke of midnight Mabel John and her husband Shola Karimu, of Flatbush, became the proud parents of a 6-pound, 10-ounce baby boy, Oladipupo Oluwagbemiga, whose name means “prosperity.” Oladipupo clocked in as the first New Yorker of 2007 at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn. He is also a first-generation Brooklynite born to Nigerian immigrant parents.

“How do they say ‘mazel tov’ in Nigeria?” asked Borough President Markowitz. “This is surely one of many happy firsts in the life of this handsome young man who is guaranteed to be very happy and successful, and he is already off to a great start by being born in Brooklyn!”

Borough President Markowitz was proud to welcome Oladipupo as he begins a long and prosperous life in Brooklyn, where legends are made and dreams come true.
