THIS THURSDAY! BROOKLYN HEATS UP WITH FREE "SALSA BY THE SEA" CONCERT

The Seaside Summer Concert Series continues with some of the
biggest names in salsa and Latino music!

On Thursday, August 23, the 29th annual Seaside Summer Concert Series at Asser Levy/Seaside Park, hosted by Borough President Marty Markowitz, features exciting performances by salsa megastar Gilberto Santa Rosa, Xtreme, and NOTCH.

Since being founded by Marty Markowitz, the two Brooklyn Summer Concert Series have grown and thrived, featuring such headliners as Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Patti Labelle, Run DMC, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, and others. Long considered one of Brooklyn’s best kept secrets, they have generating lots of buzz this year. In addition to coverage on popular websites and blogs like Fader Magazine's thefader.com and Rollingstone.com, the concerts have appeared in the New York Times, the Daily News, and the Village Voice.

Other musical guests to play free concerts during the series this summer have included Tommy James & The Shondells, Jay Black, Billy Ocean, Air Supply—and who could forget the far-out performances by 60’s and 70’s legends at Hippiefest! Natalie Cole surprised audiences with an unforgettable evening on August 2nd, and 80’s pop-rock legends: the world’s greatest party band The B-52’s and Patty Smyth and Scandal had Brooklyn on their feet on August 9th. Last week, Anita Baker brought her heart and soul to Brooklyn with two fabulous concerts on the 13th and the 16th. This Thursday the series concludes with Salsa by the Sea, featuring hot performances by Gilberto Santa Rosa, Xtreme and NOTCH.

Gilberto Santa Rosa is considered one of the true "soneros" of his generation. He is known for his exceptional interpretation of "salsa romantica" as well as a great singer of the tropical style of music. Santa Rosa was also the first singer of tropical salsa to play a concert at Carnegie Hall, where he performed as the opening number, his unique version of the salsa tune, "Represento" (I Represent). Santa Rosa is also known as "The Salsa Gentleman."
After riding the waves of success of their first hit, "Te Extraño," Danny D and Steve Styles of XTREME are back with a vengeance. Their latest effort, Haciendo Historia, executive produced by seven-time Grammy winner Sergio George and produced and written by the Steve and Danny, was recently nominated for Billboard Latino "Tropical Album of the Year."
"Just like our fan base, we are constantly evolving and incorporating new sounds and hot concepts into our music," says Danny D. In 2006, Xtreme was awarded Best New Group at the Premio Lo Nuestro Awards due to the success of their first hit single.
Concert goers will also be treated to the Latin sounds of musical guest NOTCH.
