BP MARKOWITZ TO JOIN IMMIGRANT AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER LINARES FOR VISA LOTTERY INFO SESSION

Organizations to offer free assistance to help applicants obtain citizenship and avoid fraud.

1:00 P.M.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3
ARAB-AMERICAN FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER
150 COURT STREET, THIRD FLOOR
AT PACIFIC STREET
COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN

On Tuesday, October 3, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Guillermo Linares to encourage eligible Brooklynites and New Yorkers to take part in the annual U.S. State Department program that grants green cards to 50,000 people. From October 4 to December 3, applicants from “low-tide” immigration nations have a chance to become permanent residents of the United States.

Borough President Markowitz and Commissioner Linares will discuss the application process and offer advice on where to get help and how to avoid unscrupulous businesses and websites that falsely claim to represent them during the immigration process. Representatives from the Brooklyn Public Library and community based organizations will be present to describe the free immigration services they will provide during the application period.

More information is available at www.nyc.gov/immigrants and at the U.S. Department of State website: www.dvlottery.state.gov.
