BOROUGH HALL TO HOSTS “CITY VIEWS” ART EXHIBIT

Innovative show in monthly Community Room gallery series.

Friday, November 3, Brooklyn Borough Hall’s monthly Community Room gallery exhibit, “City Views,” will highlight the artists, curators, and visual arts organizations of Brooklyn. The show features the work of three artists who depict deeply personal interpretations and views of the city, from the waterfront to the streets of Brownstone Brooklyn.

Painter Gerald C. Manning’s life was cut short in 1993 when an apparent burglar murdered him in his apartment building. Manning, who was inspired to become an artist after seeing an Edward Hopper exhibition as a child, left behind an extraordinary body of work that captures the pastoral moments of the city and it’s distinctive river shorelines. A retrospective of his work was presented at the Belskie Museum of Art in 2004.

Hank Blaustein, a lifelong Brooklynite born in Crown Heights, has been drawing the world around him since he was old enough to hold a pencil. His work in ink, pencil, and watercolor aims to capture the essences and personalities of Brooklyn’s people and places on paper. Blaustein’s work has been featured in several one-man shows in the United States and Italy, including the Gallery at Lincoln Center, A.M. Adler and most recently in Urbino, Italy at the Sala del Maniscalco.

Vincent Pinto, known for his street portraits of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Red Hook, began painting in New York City in 1975. In the early 80’s, Pinto was a director of The Artists Project, a public art effort funded by New York City. Pinto's work is exhibited at Object Image gallery in Park Slope and Shakespeare's Sister in Carroll Gardens, and has been featured at numerous New York galleries over the years, including Barbara Gladstone, Forum, and Bernaducci.

A reception celebrating the “City Views” exhibition will be held Monday, November 20, from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room gallery of Borough Hall. The “City Views” exhibition will be open from Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in the Borough Hall Community Room gallery through the month of November.
