BP MARKOWITZ TO CELEBRATE BROOKLYN'S TURKISH HERITAGE, SEND OFF CONSUL GENERAL

**PHOTO OP**
6:00 P.M.
THURSDAY, MAY 18
BROOKLYN BOROUGH HALL ROTUNDA
209 JORALEMON STREET
BETWEEN COURT & ADAMS STREETS
DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN

On Thursday, May 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will celebrate “A Taste of Turkey” at Borough Hall’s annual Turkish heritage event where he will welcome Turkish Consul General Ömer Önhon and Mayor Ismail Unsal from Brooklyn’s Turkish “sister city” of Besiktas. Brooklyn, the Turkish capital of America, will also bid farewell to Consul General Önhon as Borough President Markowitz wishes him safe passage upon his return to Turkey this fall.

Borough Hall will sway to the beat of Turkish drummers as the Maia Fasil Trio performs traditional and modern takes on Turkish music. The cultural excitement will not be contained as the doors of the rotunda will open for the 16-member Beiskitas Folk Dance Group to perform outside in Borough Hall Plaza. Borough President Markowitz will invite all to enjoy the show as they dine on delectable Turkish delights from top Brooklyn restaurants. Come see how a culture from the cradle of civilization celebrates, Brooklyn-style.
