On Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz hosted the borough-wide block party that introduces Brooklyn to Brooklyn, the third annual BrooklynBest Festival. This year’s BrooklynBest was held in Herbert Von King Park in the heart of Brooklyn, Bedford-Stuyvesant. Two days, three stages, and one 18-mile bike-ride later, BrooklynBest 2006 was a great weekend filled with family fun.
“This is a celebration for everyone who has decided to grow a family in Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz. “The creative efforts and energy on display here at BrooklynBest gives us even more reasons to say, we’re Bed-Stuy and proud of it.”
Fashion shows featuring Brooklyn designers, live music stages, walking tours by the Bedford-Stuyvesant Brownstoners, Brooklyn Icons mini-golf, a Trolley Loop between the Weeksville Historical Society and Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, and the Tour de Brooklyn bike-ride, coordinated with Transportation Alternatives, made for one fantastic BrooklynBest.
Borough President Markowitz looks forward to all of the entries to the BrooklynBest 2006 Photography Contest. Pick up forms at the Brooklyn Tourism office located at Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street. Winning photos will become Brooklyn Tourism postcards, and winners will receive 100 postcards and a framed 2006 set. Categories include: Bed Stuy Historical Places, the Beat of Bed-Stuy, and the Spirit of BrooklynBest 2006.
