MLK CONCERT SERIES TO FEATURE LL COOL J, ANTHONY HAMILTON, ANGIE STONE, ROBERTA FLACK, MIGHTY CLOUDS OF JOY

Free Monday concerts enter 24th summer in Central Brooklyn, highlighting the best in R&B, classic soul, gospel, hip-hop, calypso, and reggae.

It’s summer again, and that means another exciting edition of Brooklyn’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Concert Series at Wingate Field in Central Brooklyn, hosted by Borough President Marty Markowitz. This year, Brooklyn plays host to a star-studded lineup of musical acts, including hip-hop with LL Cool J, classic soul with Roberta Flack and Stephanie Mills, and calypso & reggae with The Mighty Sparrow and Toots and the Maytals. The series kicks off Monday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. with neo-soul stars Anthony Hamilton and Angie Stone, and continues each Monday through August 21.

Monday, July 24 – Annual Gospel Night: Mighty Clouds of Joy, Tye Tribbett, and Lexi

Monday, August 7 – Hip Hop Legend LL Cool J

Monday, August 14 – The Carlos Lezama Caribbean Music Festival: The Mighty Sparrow – The King of Calypso; Reggae Sunsplash: Toots & The Maytals, Third World, Maxi Priest, and Rik Rok

Monday, August 21 – Motown in Brooklyn: The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, Jack Ashford & The Original Motown Sound, and The Contours

Wingate Field is located on Winthrop Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues, opposite Kings County Hospital. The public is encouraged to bring chairs because seating is limited.
