On Thursday, June 1, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz continued a proud Brooklyn tradition when he inducted the 2006 honorees to the prestigious Celebrity Path at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Three legends with Brooklyn roots who have achieved national and international acclaim actor/director Steve Buscemi, Empire State Development Corporation Chair and Commissioner Charles A. Gargano, and playwright/author Wendy Wasserstein were honored with bronze leaves interred in the beautiful Japanese Garden walkway.

“I am thrilled to welcome the newest legends to the celebrity path,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Nowhere boasts more character, or characters, than Brooklyn the place where legends are made and dreams come true.”

Honoree Steve Buscemi was joined by his, family including his father, an East New York native, and his mother, who was raised in Bay Ridge. “I couldn’t be more proud to be inducted into Brooklyn’s Celebrity Path,” said Mr Buscemi. “It is quite an honor for me and my family.”

Charles A. Gargano echoed that sentiment saying, “Everywhere I go I carry Brooklyn in my heart, and I am deeply grateful to be recognized in this way.”

Pamela Wasserstein, a niece of Wendy Wasserstein, accepted the honor on her aunt’s behalf. “Wendy would have been thrilled,” said Ms. Wasserstein. “Her Brooklyn roots were enormously important to her.”

Rededicated in 2005, by Borough President Markowitz, the Celebrity Path is an evolving monument that honors Brooklynites whose contributions have made Brooklyn and the world a better place for all to live. Keyspan is the major sponsor of the Celebrity Path.
