Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz presents the line-up of events for the BrooklynBest festival, his third annual borough-wide block party which will take place Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4. Herbert Von King Park (formerly known as Tompkins Park) in Bedford-Stuyvesant will be the location of this year’s celebration of the best in Brooklyn arts, culture, and family entertainment.
A bevy of beauties will make Herbert Von King Park Brooklyn’s newest style-lab, modeling the latest looks from trendsetting Brooklyn designers in the festival’s fashion shows. More beautiful models, the Historic Weeksville Houses, are the latest icons in the popular Brooklyn-themed mini-golf course, joining other Brooklyn landmarks such as Deno’s Wonder Wheel and the Brooklyn Bridge. Transportation Alternatives and the 2,000 riders who participated in last year’s Tour de Brooklyn look forward to more company for this year’s leisurely 18-mile ride around the borough.
At BrooklynBest ‘06 families will delight in the laser light shows and groove to the music from the bandstand. From walking tours to a high-stepping marching band, this year’s BrooklynBest has something for everyone.

Family Movie Night
A great night for a movie under the stars as the Brooklyn Steppers Marching Band entertain the crowd with their high stepping moves and drumming grooves, before a screening of the free family movie “Drumline.” Arrive early or stay late to catch the laser light shows before and after the screening of the movie on two huge screens.
Sunday, June 4

Tour De Brooklyn
Register for the Tour De Brooklyn Bicycle Ride. Last year’s free ride brought out more than 2,000 cyclists. Organized by Transportation Alternatives, this year’s 18-mile leisurely free ride puts the pedals to the pavement at 9:00 a.m.
Noon-6:00 p.m.
Family Fun
Enjoy an afternoon of family fun featuring face painters, community tables, and an art exhibition by the Bedford-Stuyvesant Artist’s Association. Practice your short game on the free Brooklyn Icons Mini-Golf Course featuring landmarks such as Deno’s Wonder Wheel, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the newest addition, the Historic Weeksville Houses.

The Amphitheater Stage
Performance groups from Bedford-Stuyvesant including PS 28’s Drum Line and Chorus and Brooklyn’s own R&B group DEEP. Fashion Shows on the hour featuring designs by Vaella, Idyllic Couture, Nakimuli Designs, Embrace Da Bss, C. Spot Designs, Debonaire NYC, Harriet’s Alter Ego, Myrian Bridal, Sameeh Alderazi, 1 Soul Inc., and Clinch Designs
Brooklyn Tourism Music Stage

A musical act every half hour presented by Brooklyn’s best spots for live music including:

BrooklynBest 2006 Photography Contest:
Pick up forms at BrooklynBest or at the Brooklyn Tourism office located in historic Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street. Winning photos will become Brooklyn Tourism postcards, and winners will receive 100 postcards and a framed 2006 set.
