On February 28, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Crown Heights Jewish Community Council Chairman Rabbi Moshe Rubashkin, Crown Heights Youth Collective Executive Director Richard Green, Mayor’s Community Assistance Unit Commissioner Jonathan Greenspun, Jewish Children’s Museum Founder Devorah Halberstam, local elected officials and community leaders came together at the Jewish Children’s Museum to respond to the killing of Frederick Klein, an orthodox Jewish father of three, and to call for an end to gun violence in Central Brooklyn and New York City. Klein, 47, was shot and killed early this morning on Carroll Street and Schenectady Ave. in Crown Heights while moving his car for alternate side of the street parking. One of his sons was to be married next week.

“The thoughts and prayers of all Brooklynites are with the family and loved ones of Frederick Klein,” said Borough President Markowitz. “The diversity of which Brooklyn is so proud is represented here today to send a clear message that we will stand united in the face of gun violence whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head, in Crown Heights, in Central Brooklyn, or anywhere in this borough and city. Any death by gun fire is one too many, and must be condemned.”

Markowitz continued, “We must continue our efforts to keep guns off our streets, to call upon federal and state legislators to stop the proliferation of guns from getting into the hands of criminals, and to say with one voice that a danger to one of us is a danger to all.”

The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council has offered a $10,000 reward for information about the shooting. The public is encouraged to call 212-577-TIPS with information regarding the incident.
