On Saturday, December 16, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz helped make the season bright for 3,000 Brooklyn children when he hosted Best of Brooklyn Holiday Celebration 2006, “Merry, Merry, Mayhem” at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York.
The children, all of whom live in shelters or NYCHA housing, were treated to a Dr. Seuss-themed holiday extravaganza that culminated with Borough President Markowitz leaping out of a giant gift box to hand-deliver a Christmas gift to the Grinch. All 3,000 kids also left the event with brand new Christmas gifts of their choosing.
On Tuesday, December 19, Borough President Markowitz continued to spread holiday joy when he enlisted the PSAL high school football champion Fort Hamilton Tigers to help distribute Christmas gifts to local charities, service organizations, and church groups. The toys, generously donated by hundreds of contributors in local toy-drives, will be distributed to children in need.
“It’s a privilege to be able to help make this holiday a special one for Brooklyn’s young people,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Children from lower-income households deserve the thrill of brand new Christmas presents, and thanks to all of our wonderful partners and generous contributors, more Brooklyn kids will have new toys and books and a big smile on Christmas day.” |
