BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF
CAPTAIN JOHN J. McKENNA
“Brooklyn extends its deepest condolences to the family of Brooklynite Captain John J. McKenna IV, 30, of Kensington, who was killed in Al Anbar province, Iraq, on August 16. This brave soldier died after being struck by a sniper’s bullet during his second tour of duty in Iraq, most recently with Marine Forces Reserve's 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. A graduate of Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School and SUNY-Binghamton, Captain McKenna became a New York state trooper after coming home from his first tour in Iraq. We mourn the loss of Captain McKenna, a son of Brooklyn, and honor the ultimate sacrifice that he has made for our country. We hope all of his loved ones will be comforted by the prayers and thoughts of millions of Brooklynites and all New Yorkers.”
-Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz
