BP MARKOWITZ CELEBRATES NAMING OF OFFICIAL
BAY RIDGE FLOWER

**PHOTO OP**
10:00-10:15 A.M.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 22
163 81st STREET
BETWEEN COLONIAL ROAD & RIDGE BOULEVARD
BAY RIDGE, BROOKLYN

On Tuesday, August 22, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will join the residents of Bay Ridge as they celebrate the designation of the hydrangea as their official flower. The results of a vote sponsored by the Bay Ridge Garden reveal that the hydrangea is Bay Ridge’s favorite flower by a nose.

This event will be another proud day in the outstanding floral history of Bay Ridge, which in the 1800s was renowned for its large farms and nurseries that supplied cut flowers and plants to locations across the city. While the forsythia was named Brooklyn’s official flower by former Brooklyn Borough President John Cashmore in 1940, the hydrangea will make a great addition to the Brooklyn bouquet.
