BP MARKOWITZ STATEMENT ON PASSING OF SATMAR “The thoughts and prayers of Brooklynites of every faith are with the grieving members of the Satmar community following the loss of Grand Rebbe Moses Teitelbaum, one of the great religious leaders Brooklyn and the world has known. After escaping the atrocity of the Holocaust, Grand Rebbe Teitelbaum emerged as a powerful spiritual leader who cherished the value of unity and identity, and he and his family resurrected their Brooklyn community into the national and international center of Satmar life.
