BP MARKOWITZ ENDORSES MARCH AGAINST

IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION

Calls immigrants "Brooklyn's backbone," demands respect from Washington.

Throughout our history, Brooklyn's greatest source of pride is being home to everyone from everywhere—the generations who have come from North, South, East, and West to make their first homes here are truly Brooklyn's backbone. That's why I join Brooklynites in supporting the thousands marching today in New York City and across the nation to say with one voice that the current immigration-reform proposals in Congress are unacceptable, because they ignore the fact that every American has immigrant roots, and that the key to overcoming this challenge is an attitude of respect and recognition for all who contribute to our collective success. And when our immigrant community benefits, all of Brooklyn and America benefits.
