On Wednesday, September 21, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined President and CEO Dr. Linda Brady, Administrator Mark Roberts, RN, and other officials for the ribbon-cutting of Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center’s new emergency department. The borough president contributed $694,000 towards the new construction and a new computerized patient tracking system.
“Quality health care is a top priority in Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz. “So I was honored that my office was able to assist in this renovation.” Markowitz also took the opportunity to remind attendees of Take Your Man to the Doctor week, which starts in Brooklyn September 26.
The new 15-bed Emergency Department has two isolation rooms, a pediatric room, an orthopedic room, a GYN room and a seven-bed fast-track area. Kingsbrook has also launched a partnership with the Emergency Medical Group from Maimonides to increase the quality of care and decrease patients’ waiting time.
“We have partnered with Maimonides specifically in the areas of Cardiology and Emergency Care because they have such a wonderful reputation in these areas,” said Dr. Brady. “Most importantly, this partnership allows us to offer our community residents a complete continuum of care.”
The Emergency Department also includes an innovative Emergency Nursing intern program, launched in July of 2005. “This was one of the first of its kind and it’s been going wonderfully,” said Mark Roberts, RN. The first class of eleven RNs in the New York Nursing Association-approved 12-week internship is set to graduate in October.
