Winners Will Receive Dream Vacations to Brooklyn
On Wednesday, March 30, Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Brooklyn Brewery President Steve Hindy at Brooklyn Bridge Park to unveil a New York State sweepstakes where the winning prizes are 10 Brooklyn Vacations. The “Brooklyn Vacation” sweepstakes celebrates the 50 th anniversary of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ 1955 World Series victory and the 2001 return of professional baseball to Brooklyn by the Mets Class A franchise, the Brooklyn Cyclones.
“More and more tourists are discovering the treasures of Brooklyn,” said Borough President Markowitz, who last year opened the Brooklyn Tourism Center at Borough Hall. “Brooklyn has neighborhoods celebrating the richness of every culture, a cutting edge art scene, and of course the traditional pleasures of Coney Island. Once the winners of Brooklyn Brewery visit the County of Kings, I’m confident they will never want to leave. And of course, how sweet it is to see Manhattanites and visitors from around world order a Brooklyn beer!”
“For years, I have been jealous of the big trips that the multinational breweries offer their distributors and customers—trips to the Caribbean, to Europe or California,” said Hindy. “We used to joke about offering trips to Brooklyn, but in recent years, Brooklyn has become a destination for many tourists. Brooklyn holds a mythical place in the American imagination, all over the world for that matter. Our customers in the New York area and Upstate all embraced the idea of a ‘Brooklyn Vacation.’”
A Brooklyn Vacation includes a limousine for you and five friends to visit the Brooklyn Brewery for a VIP tour and tasting, eat lunch at Nathan’s Famous original hot dog stand in Coney Island, attend a Brooklyn Cyclones baseball game, and then ride Coney Island’s famous Cyclone Roller Coaster and Deno’s Wonder Wheel. Upstate New York winners will be flown to JFK Airport by JetBlue, the official airline of the Brooklyn Vacation. The promotion will be staged in bars, supermarkets and beer stores throughout the state. Entry forms are available at the retailers. No purchase is necessary.
All this year, Brooklyn Pilsner Beer and Brooklyn Pennant Ale ’55 will use special labels commemorating the Dodgers’ triumph. The Brewery will donate $1 from the sale of every case of Brooklyn Pennant Ale to the Mayor’s Fund for New York City, which is erecting a monument to Dodger greats Pee Wee Reese and Jackie Robinson at KeySpan Park in Coney Island.
