“I commend the Fifth Avenue Committee for never losing sight of what always remains job number one — ensuring that residents of every income level have access to a safe, comfortable home that they can afford,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “I am confident that in this gorgeous new home of your own —FAC will become an even greater asset to the South Brooklyn residents who need and deserve your help.”
On Wednesday, March 23, Borough President Markowitz joined the Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) to cut the ribbon for its new Center for Community Development, an innovative multi-purpose community center. The Center features job-generating businesses, non-profit offices, community meeting facilities, community art projects, classrooms, and a state-of-the-art computer lab.
Attendees included representatives of New York Community Bank and the Robin Hood Foundation, Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC), Pratt Institute for Community and Environmental Development (PICCED), local artists and performers, and South Brooklyn community members. Gowanus Wildcats, La Salsa de Hoy, and the Keur Djembe Drum Shop performed at the event.
The Center will house FAC’s offices, as well as its Brooklyn Workforce Innovations and First Source Staffing programs. FAC is a 26-year-old organization that promotes social and economic justice in South Brooklyn.
