COMMUNITY OPPOSES ST. MARY’S CLOSING

Photographs by Laura Geiser

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Rev. Al Sharpton and other community and religious leaders at Church on a Hill at a June 25 rally to protest the proposed closure of St. Mary’s Hospital.

“It shouldn’t take a miracle to end the vicious cycle of hospital takeovers and closures that are putting our families at greater risk, while putting our workers out of a job. We demand that funds from the conversion of Empire Blue Cross to a for-profit company be plowed back into health care, including to a fund set aside to assist distressed hospitals. We will continue to fight for what our families need and deserve,” said Markowitz.
