“I commend the medical team from Lutheran Medical Center and the New York Honduran Committee for giving their time, energy and expertise to care for those less fortunate,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “Your volunteerism and selflessness in providing free medical care to families in Honduras is a testament to strength of the human spirit. Your work represents the best of Brooklyn and serves as an inspiration to us all.”

On Wednesday, April 27, Borough President Markowitz honored the medical team from Lutheran Medical Center and members of the New York Honduran Committee for completing their 8th humanitarian mission to Tela, Honduras. On this trip, the Brooklyn team provided free surgeries to adults and children, repairing birth defects such as cleft palettes, clubbed feet and hands, and fixed unattended childhood injuries. In 8 days, the medical team saw 300 children and adults and performed 50 operations.
