Borough President Marty Markowitz and Project Reach Youth hosted more than 500 students and parents for a college fair April 14. Students and parents were able to hear firsthand about academic programs from participating college representatives and attend workshops designed to assist them with the college application and financial aid process. They also heard from a group of current college students about what college life can be like. Four $500 scholarships were awarded by lottery at the fair.
Shown here, from left are Ben Lampert, college coordinator for Project Reach Youth, Borough President Markowitz, scholarship winner Malik Ranger, and Bob Madison, executive director of Project Reach Youth.
“Trust me,” Markowitz told the students, “Any famous athlete, rapper, movie star, or even an elected official like me will tell you the same thing. You can have all the fortune and fame in the world, all the bling-bling you could ever hope for, but now, more than ever, a college degree and a post graduate degree are basic requirements for a successful life.
