BOROUGH PRESIDENT’S STATEMENT ON THE LOSS OF
POPE JOHN PAUL II

“Pope John Paul II was the first to visit the Synagogue in Rome and worked to engender better and warm relations between the Jewish and Catholic communities throughout the world. A more energetic Pope with his outstanding communication skills in many languages will not happen anytime soon. Brooklyn was blessed to be visited by this Pope twice during his tenure. All faiths in Brooklyn are in sorrow at this loss and confident he will be at peace with the Lord.”

- Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz
