On Thursday, September 23, Brooklyn Borough President
Marty Markowitz hosted Prime Minister Patrick Manning and Consul
General Harold Robertson of Trinidad and Tobago at Borough Hall
Rotunda. The two-island nation celebrates 28 years of independence
today. Also present were State Senator Kevin Parker, Assemblyman
Nick Perry, and Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Guillermo Linares.
“You embody so much of what makes Brooklyn
such a great place to live, work and play,” said Borough
President Markowitz, addressing the Trinis and Tobagans in the
audience. “Your national anthem says ‘Here every
creed and race find an equal place and may God bless our nation.’
And that is just like Brooklyn, where we are home to everyone
from everywhere.”
Following
the reception were refreshments and entertainment, complete
with the music of traditional Caribbean steel pans.
