On Saturday, September 18, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined Brooklyn’s Central American and Mexican communities at their annual Independence Day celebration at the soccer fields in Red Hook.

Borough President Markowitz paid tribute to the soccer players and the food vendors who keep the Latin American spirit and flavor alive and well in Brooklyn.

“Only in Brooklyn, can Red Hook feel, smell and sound just like Central America,” said Borough President Markowitz. “That’s because Brooklyn today is America tomorrow. The future of America is right here in this neighborhood.”

As a part of the celebration, Borough President Markowitz presented Organizer Cesar Fuentes and the members of the Food Vendors Committee of Red Hook with a proclamation for their 20 years of service to the community.
